Dene Road Traffic Measures
Speed sign on Dene Road
This 20-mph speed sign is sited on Dene Road approximately 200 yards from the traffic lights at Wilmslow Road, on the left side as one looks towards Spath Road. The sign is rather on the small size and, by the time motorists travelling from Wilmslow Road reach this point, some are considerably exceeding this limit thereby putting other road users and pedestrians at serious risk. Motorists from beyond the local area may not be aware that the whole of the Fordbank estate has a maximum speed limit of 20 mph.
Dene Road: bollards, white lines and crossing for pedestrians
This photograph was taken from the corner of Springdale Gardens in the direction of Fordbank Road. Notice the white lines which extend along the centre of much of Dene Road and the ‘Keep Left’ sign on the bollard. Speeding vehicles have been seen crossing the white lines and overtaking other vehicles on many occasions. In addition, speeding vehicles have also been seen overtaking by going to the right of the bollards – again putting other road users and pedestrians at risk.
For pedestrians wanting to cross at the bollards, a number of difficulties arise. First, the pavement kerbs are not lowered. Second, vehicles are sometimes parked in front of the pavements thereby causing an obstruction. Third, a mature tree is close to the kerb on the right. Crossing Dene Road at this point can be a hazardous exercise especially for mothers with young children and buggies and especially when vehicles are speeding. It can also be problematic for the elderly and wheelchair users.
