Ray Winstone, the famous actor, shot scenes for the three-part ITV television drama, The Trials of Jimmy Rose, on Westmorland Road during November 2014. I was actually a witness to the event and remember him sitting on a fold-up chair on the pavement patiently waiting whilst filming was taking place inside a house. It was at night – dark and cold – and other interested onlookers also observed from across the road. Winstone starred in the leading role and his co-star was Amanda Redman. The crew were spotted filming in the local Didsbury area and nearby Northenden for the series, which subsequently aired in 2015.
Nearby Spath Road has for many years been a popular location for TV filming. Sometimes the filming is done over several days and the car park of Withington Golf Club is used as a base for all the vehicles etc needed for the production work.
