Wooden posts on grassy knoll, Ford Lane, 2019
One of the most annoying nuisances to residents on Ford Lane has been the deep ruts gouged into the grassy knoll by heavy goods vehicles overtaking parked cars and vans. It not only spoils a lovely part of the estate, but disconcerts the many local people who strive to keep the area neat and attractive for residents and visitors alike – and especially with ‘Didsbury in Bloom’ in mind.
Following repeated requests for something to be done, the council finally arranged for wooden posts to be erected to prevent vehicles mounting the grassy knoll and to protect the turf. The work was completed late in 2019, when 29 posts were put in place, each approximately two-feet high and spaced at intervals of about six feet.
A further measure to limit damage to Ford Lane involves the request that drivers of heavy goods vehicles wishing to access Didsbury Sports Ground and beyond should use Fordbank Road.
