Simon's Bridge
Simon's Bridge
Simon’s Bridge, Didsbury – a view looking downstream, 1920
An interesting story concerning Simon’s Bridge was the occasion when, shortly after the introduction of the old Austin 7 motor car in the 1920s, one of Didsbury Golf Club’s members – a Mr Sherwell – drove his car across the bridge to the club. When he tried to repeat the manoeuvre the following Sunday, he found his exit blocked by a massive iron post. Who said local councils were slow to act?

Simon’s Bridge, about 1923
This view is looking upstream towards the bridge and shows a rower, children playing in the shallow river, walkers on the bridge and a couple relaxing by the water’s edge. In the distance can be seen a number of horses. Again, note the protective stone protrusion, left, built to prevent erosion of the bank.
